Film Work

Since 2014, I have become more involved in film work, and have been responsible for the post production on three shorts: The Barber's Cut (2014), The Double Cross (2016) and Ascent (2018). Each has been well received, and together they have been selected for over 200 film festivals globally.

The Barber’s Cut

The Barber’s Cut is a dark comedy set in the basement of a mad barber. The film required a large amount of post production. Not least the removal of the actors' bodies from the heads that are sitting on a shelf in a fridge. A hand, a foot and a head also had to be removed for some of the action shots. These removals then had to be replaced with bloody stumps. Another job was compositing a severed hand that has a life of its own. Clips of some of my work on the film can be seen here.

The Barber’s Cut has been selected for over 170 film festivals worldwide. It has won more than 70 awards, including 9 Best VFX awards.

The Golden Door Film Festival in New York deserves a mention as The Barber’s Cut was selected out of over 2500 entries to be shown with 150 other films. I travelled to New York in September 2015 with the director Mark Brocking for the screening. The Barber’s Cut was nominated in all top five categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Actress. In October 2016 it was screened at the Empire Leicester Square as part of the British Horror Film Festival, and won the Best British Horror Award.

To celebrate Hallowe'en 2018, the full movie was finally released for the first time. Catch it here.

The Double Cross

The Double Cross is a silent black and white comedy set in Edwardian London. It's a story about a girl’s 21st birthday party, and the arrival of an unexpected relative, intent on causing trouble. The film won Best Short at the Best Shorts Film Festival in California, November 2014, as well as winning Best International Short Film at the Texas Ultimate Shorts Festival, January 2016. The Double Cross has been entered into over 50 film festivals worldwide and won over 10 awards. Clips of some of my work on the film can be seen here.

The Double Cross - movie poster

The post production work for The Double Cross involved a lot of object removal. Anything that was from the modern era had to go. This included, amongst other things, camera cables, a washing machine, a transit van and a security rope for the window jump. There was also all of the grading, as well as a number of effects shots.
